Rx for Science Literacy: The What, Where, How and Why of Health Science Research

An introductory workshop based on NCABR's comprehensive Rx for Science Literacy curriculum manual, which provides an overview of the biomedical research process.

The manual was updated and expanded in 2013. The new version includes chapters on nanobiotechnology, regenerative medicine and vaccines and has been repackaged for easier use across all grade levels (elementary school, middle school, high school, CTE). It is accompanied by several new resources, including a curriculum crosswalk that shows connections to North Carolina standards across many curricula areas, including the Next Generation Science Standards; and a reading guide related to the Common Core standards.

The Rx for Science Literacy workshop series provides K-12 educators a unique opportunity to tour research facilities, hear from scientists about their latest research advances and take a home a free curriculum and other bioscience education materials.

Incentives for attending an Rx for Science Literacy workshop include:

• 1 unit of certification renewal credit for North Carolina-certified educators (4 hours of additional work required)
• Free supplemental curriculum and other bioscience education materials to use in the classroom
